Time-Efficient Slab Selective Water Excitation

چکیده
Introduction Spectral spatial (SPSP) RF pulses are simultaneously selective in both the spectral and spatial domains [1]. SPSP pulses consist of a train of slice selective RF subpulses applied simultaneously with an oscillating slice select gradient. When used for spatially selective water or fat excitation, the difference in frequency between water and fat, ∆ , limits the spacing between RF subpulses to 1 2∆ ⁄ [2]. At 3T and above, this leads to subpulse durations of less than 1 ms. This short subpulse duration limits the sharpness of the slab profile which can be achieved in 3D imaging applications. In the present work, time-efficient 3D slab-selective waterexcitation pulses with sharp spatial profiles are designed. These pulses are superior to separate fat saturation and water excitation in: overall duration, flexible choice of T2*-weighting, and level of fat suppression in the presence of B1 inhomogeneity.

Introduction Use of nonselective refocusing pulses shortens the echo spacing and the echo train duration, and then improves the image sharpness in SPACE [3, 4] imaging. However, the nonselective refocusing pulses limit the application of slab selective acquisition. To overcome this limitation, a dual echo-spacing technique [1] has been presented before, using a combination of selective excitati...

متن کاملSimultaneous high-Q confinement and selective direct piezoelectric excitation of flexural and extensional lateral vibrations in a silicon phononic crystal slab resonator
The complete phononic band gap (PnBG) of a phononic crystal (PnC) slab is used to efficiently and simultaneously confine both flexural and extensional (longitudinal) elastic vibrations in a resonator. The PnC structure is fabricated by etching a hexagonal (honeycomb) array of air holes in a silicon (Si) slab. Flexural and extensional acoustic modes in the structure are directly excited by a pie...
متن کاملEnhanced Slab Selective Brain Imaging at 3T using Wide Band Tailored RF pulses
Introduction T1 weighted brain imaging at 3T for both clinical and neuroscience applications is often done using slab selective MPRAGE [1] sequences that provide flexible 3D coverage. RF field (B1) non-uniformity is an inherent problem for high field MRI and for this type of sequence results in variable image contrast. In order to compensate for this, various B1 inhomogeneity mitigating RF puls...

J-Y. Park, M. Garwood Center for Magnetic Resonance Research and Department of Radiology, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, United States Synopsis: Frequency-swept pulses, like the hyperbolic secant (HS1) pulse, are not typically employed for excitation in MRI. When used for excitation in gradient-echo imaging, the HS1 pulse does not produce a proper echo because the magnetization phase...
